The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowships in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally and highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and career in research. The objectives of the program are to identify the students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their potential in their studies; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country. The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship appears in all the national dailies normally on the Technology Day the May 11 and Second Sunday of July every year. The selection of students is from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Natural and Basic Sciences having aptitude for scientific research. There are special groups or committees set up at IISc, which screen the applications, conduct aptitude test at various centres. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are invited for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview are required. Generous scholarships are provided up to the pre-Ph. D. Level to the selected students.

List of instructions
- The test is of 3 hours duration (9.30 a. m. To 12.30 p. m.)
- The question paper consists of two parts (both contain only multiple choice questions) for 100 marks.
- There will be four sections in Part I (each containing 20 questions) and four sections in Part II (each containing 10 questions).
- Answer any THREE of the four sections In Part I, and any TWO of the four sectionsin Part II .
- The composition of the question paper is given in the table below:
Physics 20 questions-1 mark each 10 questions-2 marks each Chemistry 20 questions-1 mark each 10 questions-2 marks each
Biology 20 questions-1 mark each 10 questions-2 marks each
- The answer paper is machine readable. The answer to each question is to be entered in OMR sheet only.
- For each question there will be four choices given and only one of them is the correct answer. There is negative marking for wrong answers.
- Unanswered questions will not be evaluated and will not be penalized as a wrong answer. In Part I each correct answer gets 1 mark and for each incorrect answer 0.25 marks will be deducted. In Part II each correct answer gets 2 marks and for each incorrect answer 0.5 marks will be deducted.
